Role Ideas

As suggested by Mark Rolendis -

Soldiers

-Centurion: a ranking officer. Perhaps a good role play reward granted on a faithful and dutiful warrior from his General or Emperor?

-Legate: a lieutenant to the general. Another RP sort of reward I suppose? Can't have everyone running around being the boss ;)

Gladiators

-Slaves sold into the lifestyle

-Criminals

-Free born men (or women I suppose) looking for fame

Priests/Priestesses

-Flamen: one of fifteen priests of the state-supported religion

-Pontifex: a high priest

-Vestil Virgin: A woman who is taken or dedicates herself to the goddess Vesta and taking a vow of celibacy which lasts 30 years.

Various Artists

-Actors

-Mimes (although not often thought of favorably in Rome, and they were not necessarily silent from what I understand)

-Poets (they were quite liked)

-Musicians

-Dancers

-Mosaicist (sculptors and people who put pictures together with colored stones)

Social sorts of roles.

-Tavern keeper(s)

-Vinter/brewer (wine/beer maker)

-Pimps and their prostitutes

-Courtesan (a lady who sold herself for sexual and social services, but kept her own home... oddly the male version of this word doesn't have the same connotations)

Government

-Senators

-Procurator (government agent regarding the financial services)

-Aedile (magistrate charged with the supervision of public buildings, games, and markets)

-Decurion (member of a local senate of a Roman municipality)

-and the list goes on and on... who knew it was so involved to run an empire? ;)

Now, here are some ones that don't really pertain to any specific areas that have buildings in Romanum:

Academics (and of course their students)

-Rhetorician (from what I understand are skilled debaters)

-Grammarian

-Philosopher

-Physician (more of a herbalist really... but did minor operations)

Mystics (all of which were outlawed, but still practiced and accepted)

-Magicians

-Soothsayers

-Astrologer

Criminals

-Gangster (they had very successful gangs in Rome apparently)

-Interfector (enforcers, or killers within the ranks of a gang)

-Pirate (robber, pirate, burglar. your typical criminal)

The rest are basic stuff like fishermen, farmers, bakers and the like...
