ROMANUM SLAVES ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS

I. SLAVERY/SERVITUDE IN ROMANUM

As a roleplay sim focused on ancient Rome, slavery is common in Romanum and many of our residents choose to be either servus (slave) or Dominus (Master).  We recognize that this is a voluntary RP position and each Dominus/servus pair are free to work out the particulars of their relationship and the RP they engage in.

That said, there are some standard expectations of servi behavior in public.  Below, you will find these expectations laid out as well as some suggestions for making the most of this important role in Romanum.

II. OWNED AND PUBLIC SLAVES

There are two paths for a slave in Romanum:

In either case their specific training will be undertaken by the appropriate dominus, together with adherence to the Public RP guidelines for servi. (see "Expectations" listed below)

The different ways to serve are:

IIa. PRIVATELY OWNED SLAVES

These slaves serve a particular Dominus, or Family in both a domestic and public setting. Men wishing to enter into private servitude (and those seeking slaves) are encouraged to use the Servus-Dominus Matching Board which is located in the Welcome Center  and run by the Slaver Mardrakus. (mardrake resident). Furthermore, privately owned slaves are encouraged to register as such in the Empire of Romanum group, although this is not a requirement.

IIb. PUBLICLY OWNED SLAVES

Slaves may, alternatively, prefer to serve as a Publicly Owned Slave of Romanum. This can take place in several different areas of your choice, including:

BACCHUS TEMPLE

- Devout servi, serve the God Bacchus and are part of a pleasure cult where sacred servi  undertake to provide sexual services for any who visit. For further details contact Flamen skyrimnar Leone (skyrimnar)

IMPERIAL PALACE

- Here, servi have the immense pleasure of serving the Emperor directly by tending to his household, providing service during palace events, hosting and aiding important visitors, representing the imperial family faithfully, and performing duties required by the Emperor, his spouse and his family. Contact Palace Manager Jin měi rén of Han (acrylix).

TAVERNS

- Servi greet visitors to the Tavern, dance, provide drinks and sometimes sexual services on request using the upstairs rooms. Contact Tavern Keeper Miles Maximus (milehigh maximus).

ROMANUM BATHS

- Servi work in the public baths by hosting visitors to the Baths and helping to meet their needs.

GLADIATOR

- Public servi may take part in Gladiatorial Contests as indentured fighters. (Note: this involves a serious commitment to continued training in weapons, not just RP) contact Rector Tybalt Caproni.

(Note: Privately owned servi can also become gladiators, with their Dominus' permission)

LEGION

- The Legion is supported by public servi who tend to the fort, clean the barracks, care for the horses, cook and serve officers in other important ways.  Servi at the Legion are trained to fight in order to supplement the Legion's numbers and are used during times of war or invasion. Contact Optio ƛԼЄҲƖ ŔƠMƛƝƠѴ-ƤӇƠЄƝƖҲ  (alexbeauchamp).

Servi may wish to operate in several of the above, which is acceptable if

- 1) the owners of those places are in agreement and have an understanding of responsibility and

- 2) the proper tag for that place is used for each at the time, to avoid confusion and aid RP

NOTE: If a public slave is "sold" to a permanent owner or otherwise, the money exchanged should be RP and not Lindens, and the transaction made on that basis.

III. CONDUCT OF SERVUS IN ROMANUM

IIIa. DOMESTIC SERVI

The private relationship between a Dominus and his servus allows them to agree to their own expectations of behavior.

A Dominus should supply any required household uniform and other required materials.  Legally (RP), the Dominus owns the servus.

While in public, a domestic servus shall show respect to other citizens.

In particular, he

•    Will wear what clothing his master requires (Note. This can include collar and naked. We feel it's for the

      Master/servus to decide)

•    Will not sit on a chair or bench, but will stand, kneel, or sit on the ground, unless given permission

•    When speaking to citizens, he will use their title, or the word Dominus.

•    When speaking to other servi uses the term "brother"

•    Should not use a citizen’s name except to distinguish who he is talking to, if more  than one citizen is present       (eg Dominus Marcus)

•    Should display his owner’s name in his profile picks.

•    Has the right to refuse sex, or leave roleplay he finds inappropriate, although as always we recommend

departing in a manner that still fits the RP.

IIIb. PUBLIC SERVI

Legally (rp), the State in the name of the Emperor owns the servus. However, in practice, the owner will be the person controlling the servus’ place of work (tavern, baths etc). He will give orders and instructions on how the servus should work.

While in public, a public servus shall show respect to all citizens.

In particular, he

•    Wear clothing required for his work

•    Will not sit on a chair or bench, but will stand, kneel, or sit on the ground, unless given permission

•    When speaking to citizens, he will use their title or Dominus

•    When speaking to other servi will use the term "brother"

•    He should not use a citizen’s name except to distinguish who he is talking to, if more than one citizen is

     present (eg Dominus Marcus)

•    Display his role in his profile, and tag

•    Has the right to refuse sex, or leave roleplay he finds inappropriate, although as always we recommend

departing in a manner that still fits the RP.

IV COMPLAINTS AND DISAGREEMENTS

In the event of complaints concerning a public servus:  If it is in a particular venue, it should me made to the venue owner or manager. If out on the street or a public place, in the first instance, it should be made to one of the Proconsuls.

V. GREETING VISITORS

In any of these roles, Servi are encouraged to respectfully greet and inform newcomers to the sim if they encounter them, suggest they join Romanum VIPs group, conduct them to the Welcome Centre and make them feel at home.
